Natural Dye From The Ground Up
Community Education Weekend Workshop @ NCC East 40
ART 279 Natural Dyeing from the Ground up
This class was first taught in May 2023. Future dates TBA
Learn the basics by hands-on dyeing with natural materials-some you will harvest from the ground during the workshop! Environmentally friendly practices will be used to unlock the magic of historic dyestuffs that have been used for thousands of years. Organic indigo, madder root, goldenrod and other dyestuffs, plus silk, bamboo, merino, wool and mohair to use them on are provided.
The workshop provides an overview of natural dye practice and understanding, no prior experience necessary. The location is at Northampton Community College's East 40, which as the name implies is 40 acres, on the East edge of the college campus. The September workshop was actually scheduled to take full advantage of the best time to harvest the goldenrod that grows so abundantly there.
